2 Thessalonians 2

1But we ask you, brothers, and sisters concerning the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ and of our gathering to him, 2that you not be readily disturbed or terrified in your minds, by any spirit, or word, or epistle, supposedly sent from us, claiming that the day of the Lord is close by. 3Let no one deceive you in any way. For this cannot be, unless the apostasy (Rebellion) will have arrived first, and the man of sin will have been revealed, the son of perdition,4who is an adversary to, and who is lifted up above, all that is called God or that is worshipped, so much so that he sits in the temple of God, presenting himself as if he were God. 5Do you not recall that, when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6And now you know what it is that holds him back, so that he may be revealed in his own time.7For the mystery of iniquity is already at work. And only one now holds back, and will continue to hold back, until he is taken from our midst. 8And then that iniquitous one shall be revealed, the one whom the Lord Jesus shall bring to ruin with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy at the brightness of his return: 9him whose advent is accompanied by the works of Satan, with every kind of power and signs and false miracles,10and with every seduction of iniquity, toward those who are perishing because they have not accepted the love of truth, so that they may be saved. 11For this reason, God will send to them works of deception, so that they may believe in lies, 12in order that all those who have not believed in the truth, but who have consented to iniquity, may be judged.<————-

13Yet we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers, and sisters beloved of God,

Because God has chosen you as first-fruits for salvation, by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.14He has also called you into truth through our Gospel, unto the acquisition of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.15And so, brothers, and sisters stand firm, and hold to the traditions that you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle.

Divinely Prescribed

Improving Humanities Outcomes: As divine prescriptions by the letters from the scribes

And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says:

James 2:1
My brothers and sisters. within the glorious faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, do not choose to show favoritism toward persons

2 For if a man or woman has entered your assembly having a gold ring and splendid apparel, and if a poor man has also entered, in dirty clothing

3 and if you are then attentive to the one who is clothed in excellent apparel, so that you say to him, \”You may sit in this good place,\” but you say to the poor man, \”You stand over there,\”

\’or, \”Sit below my footstool.

4are you not judging within yourselves?

and have you not become judges with unjust thoughts

My most beloved brothers and sisters, listen Has not God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that God has promised to those whom love him

But you have dishonored the poor. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you? through power? And are not they the ones who drag you to judgment?!

Are not they the ones who blaspheme the good name which has been invoked over you?

So if you perfect the regal law, according to the Scriptures, \”You shall love your neighbor as yourself,» then you do well

But if you show favoritism to persons, then you commit a sin, having been convicted again by the law as transgressors

Now whoever has observed the whole law, yet who offends in one matter, has become guilty of all

For he who said, \"You shall not commit adultery,\" also said, \"You shall not kill.\" So if you do not commit adultery, but you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law

So speak and act just as you are beginning to be judged, by the law of liberty

For judgment is without mercy toward him who has not shown mercy. But mercy exalts itself above judgment

My brothers, what benefit is there if someone claims to have faith, but he does not have works?

How would faith be able to save him?

So if a brother or sister is naked and daily in need of food….

16 and if anyone of you were to say to them: \”Go in peace, keep warm and nourished,\” and yet not give them the things that are necessary for the body, of what benefit is this

Thus even faith, if it does not have works, is dead, in and of itself

Now someone may say: \”You have faith, and I have works.\” Show me your faith without works! But I will show you my faith by means of works

You believe that there is one God. You do well. But the demons also believe, and they tremble greatly

So then, are you willing to understand, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead

Was not our father Abraham justified by means of works, by offering his son Isaac upon the altar

Do you see that faith was cooperating with his works, and that by means of works faith was brought to fulfillment

And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says:

\”Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.\” And so he was called the friend of God

Do you see that a man is justified by means of works, and not by faith alone

Similarly also, Rahab, the harlot, was she not justified by works, by receiving the messengers and sending them out through another way

Don’t be fooled; For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead

Reflections: Let us think about the Word of God

Let us reflect upon our own faith journey with the following questions:

Do I believe? How deep is my faith? Am I open to letting God speak to me? Am I open to the Word of God and willing to let God’s truth sink in more deeply? Am I willing to let faith change my life?

Romans 10:9-17 For, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. For the scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him.

  1. Belief …” What has your journey of belief looked like? Have you looked deeply at the question of your beliefs? Do you even know what you believe? Have you tackled the tough questions of God, the creation of the universe, the afterlife, the moral life, worship and the like?
  2. Desire for Happiness: Have you ever pondered this desire for happiness written on your very soul?  Have you ever realized that this desire affects almost every decision you make?  Do you realize that sometimes it leads you to seek a false and momentary sort of “happiness” that, in the end, only leaves you dry and empty?
  3. Fulfilling that Desire: What makes you happy?  What makes you truly happy?  What is that one thing that fulfills you?  Of course, the answer is God.  This is obtained by faith in Him.  Try to explain how you may have discovered that God is the way to fulfill your desire for happiness.  Perhaps there was a specific moment when you began your conversion.  Or perhaps there were many little moments you can point to when you began to make this discovery.  Share what you are comfortable sharing.  Your story may be what another needs to hear!
  4. Knowing God: we come to know God in two ways: Human reason & Revelation (faith).
    1. Human reason: Discuss what we can arrive at by our human reason alone.  How much can we arrive at regarding God?  What can we prove about God?  If you were to enter into an argument with an atheist about God, what would you use as argumentation to prove that there is a God?
    2. Revelation (faith): What is revelation and how has it come to us throughout the ages. What has spoke God to us through the ages? What did He say to Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, the Prophets, John the Baptist, Jesus and the Church?

Reflections: On the Inner walk with God.

Take time in reflecting upon these. See what areas that may need to be strengthened.🌹
